Democrats, led by Rep. Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez, have presented
the Green New Deal
that is a combination of climate and social justice legislation. We
are being told this new legislation (H.Res.109 -
Recognizing the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New
Deal), which gives no
specifics, is necessary if we are to save the world from global
warming. Democrats are telling us that if we don't take drastic
measures, the world as we know it will come to an end in 12 years.
No
matter your stand on climate change, you have to see this as a fear
tactic. I've written about Climate
Hypocrisy, but his is more about the social justice aspect and
how this plan is economically impossible. I've seen estimates that
the Green New Deal
could cost anywhere between $84-$100 trillion dollars. There is only
an estimated $77 trillion in the entire world. This means, if you
confiscated all the money in the world, you would come up short. You
might ask what their alternative payment method might be—printing
money has been proposed. Any economist will tell you that printing
this much money would destroy the US economy,
Let's
look at some of the climate solutions. They propose we use mostly
wind, solar, and hydroelectric, which we are already pretty much at
capacity. In fact, environmentalist often block new dam projects
because they worry about the danger to fish and the environment. They
don't want nuclear, so that leaves only solar and wind as the main
sources of energy. The main problems with those is the wind doesn't
always blow and the sun doesn't always shine. Both are severely
effected by cold. During cold weather both become less efficient or
stop working all together.
Proponents
of the New Green Deal
want to replace all internal combustion motor vehicles with electric.
This brings us to another problem. Let's look at the problems if we
converted to electric cars with our current power grid. Using Texas
as an example, the grid could handle the extra load if people didn't
charge their cars at the same time and only at night. Just think, if
we used only solar and wind, and charged only at night during off
peak hours, when half the US power grid would be offline, we would
surely have blackouts.
There
is the social justice aspect of the New
Green Deal. This would
mean free healthcare for all, free college education, and a paycheck
for everyone who chooses not to work, These things alone would
bankrupt the country. You have to remember, the US currently has $22
trillion of debt. In 2013, there was a total of $1.5 trillion in
student debt. Paying off all current education loans would possibly
double the 2013 number.
Another
aspect of the deal is to eliminate all domestic air travel and
replace it with high speed rail. In California they just abandoned a
high speed rail line from Los Angeles to San Francisco. There is talk
of restarting the project with costs much higher than ever
anticipated. Numbers released Friday by the California High-Speed
Rail Authority, shows its projected baseline cost is now $77 billion
— up 20 percent from two years ago — and it indicated the cost
could rise to as high as $98 billion. The opening date for the Los
Angeles-to-San Francisco bullet train has also been delayed by at
least four years, to 2033. Democrats are saying we must start
building enough of these lines today to replace all jet travel within
12 years. The impossibility of such a massive project is obvious.
Maybe
I should have named this piece, The Impossible Dream.
The worst aspect of the
Green New Deal is the
biggest lie, that this is mostly about saving the planet. This Bill
does nothing to force China and India, two of the planet's biggest
producers of carbon dioxide, to do anything. If the Green
New Deal could do
everything it promises, there would be little change in global carbon
dioxide levels. About the only thing that would be accomplished by
the Green New Deal,
even if cataclysmic climate change is real, is that Americans would
be poor and hungry when the world did end. The US is, maybe, the
world's best chance at inventing the technology that would lower
global carbon dioxide levels. If the US is broke and all minds and
services are directed toward the Green
New Deal, there would be
no resources left to save the planet.
Democrats
are just using climate change to push socialism onto society. They
believe that if they can scare people enough, especially children,
they will gladly accept the lower standard of living that always
comes with socialism. Democrats want to eliminate capitalism, which
actually means pure communism. Anytime you say the democrat's endgame
is communism, you will likely be laughed at. All you have to do is
look at the things they propose to be sure that global communism is
their endgame.
The
Democratic Party is changing. Bernie Sanders would have beaten
Hillary in the primary had the party not cheated. Since 2016, the
party has moved even farther left. It was, newly elected, Rep.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
who brought the Green New
Deal to national
attention. You might think this is a new idea, but an early use of
the term "Green New Deal" was coined by journalist, Thomas
Friedman. He argued in favor of the idea in two pieces that appeared
in The New York Times
and The New York Times
Magazine.
This
approach was subsequently taken up by the Green
New Deal Group, which
published its report on July 21, 2008. The concept was further
popularized and put on a wider footing when the United Nations
Environment Programme (UNEP) began to promote it on October 22, 2008.
You
can be sure of one thing, the Green
New Deal is only about
power. Sure, there are some true believers in cataclysmic climate
change and a socialist system. Children are being indoctrinated in
our schools to believe in both. We need people in our education
system with common sense, who will teach facts and how to protect our
environment without going to extremes.
To
counteract the left, we must also use facts and common sense. We must
show how, in the past, we diverted climate disasters, such as acid
rain, by introducing laws that solved the problem without bankrupting
the system and changing the American way of life.
